The Commercial Appeal
The main daily newspaper serving residents of Memphis, Tennessee, and the surrounding cities and towns such as Fayette, Tate, Tunica, Tipton and Shelby is called the Commercial Appeal. It is a morning paper that is owned by The E.W. Scripps Company, and it is well known for its liberal viewpoints regarding editorial positions. The name of the newspaper comes from a merger that occurred in the 19th century between papers called the Appeal and the Memphis Commercial. You can find all of the local news, sports and entertainment information as well as the usual classifieds section. It’s interesting to note that the Commercial Appeal won a Pulitzer Prize back in 1923 for its coverage of the revival of the Ku Klux Klan.
